Overview:
We are part of the Haven USD 312 District. We offer a unique learning opportunity for students through our virtual school. Our school is open to kindergarten through twelfth grade students who reside in Kansas. We also offer an adult learning program through our Adult Diploma Program for those who wish to return to their studies via the Internet to complete the requirements for a high school diploma.
Curriculum Options:
Odysseyware is an almost completely Internet based challenging curriculum beginning at the third grade level. Daily lessons are presented through online textbook reading within each lesson along with video clips, audio clips, animated examples and games, pictures, and links to access even more. Students complete daily lessons by answering questions about their reading assignments, writing reports, completing projects and experiments, and completing study sheets and assessments to review and measure what they have learned through each unit of study.
Students can access the program anytime and from any location where they have access to the Internet. Students complete their daily assignments online and are given feedback and guidance from their HVA teachers as needed. Throughout the school day, while working on their assignments, students are required to be available on Skype, to communicate with teachers as needed.
The communication between the school staff and the family helps make this program very successful. Current research suggests that parental involvement is one key component to a student’s academic achievement. We have found this to be especially true for virtual students. It is important for parents to be involved and to be aware of what their child is completing each day in OW so the student stays on schedule and continues to be successful. We have found the most successful students are the ones that are held accountable at home each day. It is also vital for parents to keep in regular communication with the HVA staff through email, and also Skype when needed.

K-12 Curriculum offers a challenging program for students beginning with kindergarten. It involves lessons with both on- and off-line components. The teaching role belongs to the parent as the elementary child is guided through the lessons and curriculum completing daily assignments and assessments. Parents record their child's progress online for the HVA facilitator to monitor. Parents use the provided curriculum to take their child through the lessons and complete daily assignments. K-12 materials are shipped to the student's home directly from K-12. Online access is utilized as well. K-12 is mainly offered to our students in kindergarten through second grade.
Family Involvement:
We believe that a collaborative relationship between the family and school is important for student success. Family participation, as a fundamental support system, along with regular communication between school and family are essential. Parents are encouraged to stay involved in their student's daily progress to help keep him or her accountable at home.
